Our Hardware Assurance & Testing Capabilities

Our specialist team can support a broad range of hardware and software testing, across a range of technologies. Our comprehensive testing services are designed to help illuminate design vulnerabilities or supply chain risks, as well as provide formal independent evaluation, certification or assurance against various industry or government standards.

Counterfeit components can compromise the confidentiality, integrity or availability of your critical systems or infrastructure. Key business impacts include but are not limited to data corruption; financial loss due to increased failure rates and component replacement costs; reliability and availability issues, due to inconsistent performance or unexpected downtime due to failures; and increased safety incidents or accidents, arising from substandard parts that don’t meet safety standards.

Modern supply chains are long and complex. The financial temptation for some secondary or grey market suppliers  to resell recycled, remarked, overproduced, out-of-specification, cloned or tampered parts is simply too great. Such part can infiltrate the supply chain at multiple junctures, including subcomponent manufacturers, spares providers or non-OEM repairers.

Device hardening helps to reduce the potential attack surface of your devices, by disabling or removing unnecessary services or access points, which may be exploited by threat actors to target a device. This can be achieved through physical alterations to the device, or the configuration or removal of software contained on it. Device hardening can not only increase system integrity, but can also improve or help achieve regulatory compliance, as well as enhance performance of the device through reduced resource consumption by unnecessary features.

The term TEMPEST stands for Telecommunications Electronics Material Protected from Emanating Spurious Transmissions. TEMPEST testing is designed to identify and mitigate the unintentional electromagnetic emissions from electronic devices, which may be intercepted to gather sensitive information. Testing involves the methodical measurement and analysis of electromagnetic emissions, including the strength and frequency of those emissions, to evaluate the effectiveness of device shielding or other security measures.

The Australian High Assurance Evaluation Program is managed by the Australian Signal Directorate (ASD) and involves the rigorous investigation, analysis, verification and validation of products to guarantee their ability to protect SECRET and TOP SECRET data. As an Australian Information Security Evaluation Facility (AISEF), Viden can provide pre-evaluation support and advice to product developers, to assist with the independent assurance of the cryptographic and systems engineering security of your products.

A Supply Chain Risk Assessment (SCRA) involves the methodical evaluation of a broad spectrum of potential regulatory, security, financial, geographic, environmental or business continuity risks that may be posed by different vendors within your product, service or business supply chains. The aim of an SCRA is to illuminate these risks, as well as potential mitigation, monitoring or other management strategies that can be implemented to avoid, reduce, transfer or accept such risks.

Viden can support the detailed hardware or software evaluation of a broad spectrum of technologies including traditional ICT networks through to embedded systems, IoT, OT or SCADA devices. This can range from small devices such as wearable tech or mobile communications, through to more complex platforms such as drones, industrial applications or sensor systems. Such products or devices can be evaluated against existing international and industry standards. Alternatively, Viden can assist with the development and execution of device specific test plans, to help assure specific security functional requirements.
